Review: Silkygirl Shimmer Duo Blusher

silkygirl shimmer duo blusher review

Hello gals! Who else here joined the last Shopee and Lazada sale? With the holidays approaching, those sales are surely banking a lot of moolah, I can't help but do a checkout for my wish list there. In addition to that I got my own planner for next year, I bought a unicorn planner from my sister which is also featured in today's product photos for Silkygirl Shimmer Duo Blusher! Woohoo, it's been a while since I reviewed a blush so this is something new. More photos after the jump!

What is it?
Silkygirl says:
Blusher with ultra-fine texture and silky smooth formula, in pairs of shimmer and non-shimmer for highlight and natural glows. Non-comedogenic, fragrance-free. Formulated for Asian Skin.

silkygirl shimmer duo blusher

Packaging
The packaging is cute and the top is transparent so I can easily find the right shade I need. It is compact and comes with a soft brush on-the-go, the only thing missing is the mirror.

I like how the product is well sealed upon purchase and the ingredient list as well as the manufacturing date is clearly specified at the back of the case.

Experience
Silkygirl Shimmer Duo Blusher comes in pair of shimmer and matte shades. It gives a natural glow when applied together. It comes in 4 shades. From left to right: Cheeky Peach - Sunset Glow - Petal Pink - Sunset Glow.

A closer look to each shade:

 01- Cheeky Peach
The left light pink's shimmers is very subtle and can be used together with the light orange shade for a hint of glow.

 02- Blushing Pink
Both of the colors in the pan has light shimmers. Both of them are very light pink and best used as a highlighter.

 03- Rose Petal
The blusher with the best color pay-off among the four. The combination of very light pink and dusty rose on the right is good. This is my favorite from the bunch and both of them have very light shimmers.

 04- Sunny Glow
This is a summer light orangey shade blush and looks great when applied with the light shimmer.

Now time for swatches! The texture is nice, smooth and blends nicely although it's a bit chalky. The pigmentation is too light for a blush in my opinion but it can be good if you want some glow without looking too made up. I needed to swipe it for 4-5 times for the color to show but it still doesn't appear vibrant on photos.

How much and where to buy?
P329 available in Silkygirl kiosks nationwide, you may also check out their website.

What I love
  • Texture is smooth
  • Blends nicely
  • Gives a subtle glow
  • Cute case with clear cover
  • Buildable colors
  • Can be used as a highlighter
  • Didn't break me out
  • Formulated for asian skin
  • Comes with a brush
  • Case is sealed upon purchase

What I don't
  • A bit chalky
  • Poor pigmentation
  • Needs constant touch ups
  • No mirror with the case

Will I repurchase?
As a blush no, but for a subtle highlighter maybe yes but I got all of them now. I'm not sure when will I finish all of my blushes.

Overall~
I only recommend Silkygirl Shimmer Duo Blusher for make-up starters who doesn't like to look "too done" and just needs a subtle glow.

Review: Pax Moly Organic Argan Silky Fortifying Hair Oil

I am a big fan of coconut oil for my hair. I usually use it as an overnight treatment for my bleached hair. It works wonders in adding moisture but I don't like the smell of coconut for my hair when I go outside. Luckily there is Pax Moly Organic Argan Silky Fortifying Hair Oil to the rescue. I have read good things about it and it is even called liquid gold in a bottle, let us know why shall we?

What is it?
Pax Moly Organic Argan Silky Fortifying Hair Oil says:

Packaging
A full-size bottle goes at 200ml

Experience
Argan oil is called liquid gold for its color and for the reason that it's really rare. I am so happy to have started using this. It smells like perfume except that this is an oil form. It is easily absorbed by the hair so it doesn't really make my hair greasy.

To be honest I also use this as before and after hair leave on when ironing my hair. I heard oils can fry the hair but it doesn't with this one. It might be with the hair iron I use because it's for dry and wet hair however this oil makes it shinier rather than when I use nothing.

Pax Moly Organic Argan Silky Fortifying Hair Oil makes my hair softer and tamed. No more frizzy waves. Sometimes I only use this on my ends to prevent split ends. I also tried using this argan oil as a massage oil and it does the job.

How much and where to buy?
P500 with trusted Pax Moly resellers.

What I love
  • I love the fragrance of this hair oil
  • Affordable
  • It tames my frizzy hair
  • Makes my hair softer and shinier
  • Can be used as an after iron hair oil
  • Best for bleached hair
  • Prevents split ends
  • Can be used as a massage oil
  • One bottle lasts long
  • Organic and natural
What I don't
  • None
Will I repurchase?
Yes.

Overall~
I tried different hair leave on which does nothing. Pax Moly Organic Argan Silky Fortifying Hair Oil simply does the job and I am glad that it's all-natural. It does all of the things it promises and it's worth a repurchase.

How about you what is your favorite hair oil or hair leave-on product?

Review: Ishigaki-Advanced Ultrawhite-L-Glutathione

I associate Glutathione in getting rid of breakouts as well as its bonus whitening effect. Unfortunately I have a love-hate relationship with glutathione because the effect can just either be good or bad. Good when I lighten my skin or when nothing happens but bad when it made my skin sensitive or itch. I have tried Ishigaki-Advanced Ultrawhite-L-Glutathione just recently because I find it cheap, let's see how it fared.

What is it?

Ishigaki-Advanced Ultrawhite-L-Glutathione
Having the skin tone of your dreams can do wonders not just for your physical feeling and appearance, but for your overall aura as well. Let the Ishigaki Advanced Ultrawhite L-Glutathione Capsules be your partner in perfecting your desired skin tone and your confidence as well.

Ishigaki L- Glutathione 1000mg Capsules also supports liver health. Continuous usage may make your skin smooth and fairer. This Free Form Reduced Glutathione aids in increased cellular absorption and action, making it a physician quality immune and detoxification supplement.

Instruction for use: Take 1 capsule + 500 mg Vitamin C twice a day. You can take it 30 minutes before or after eating. You can use any kind of Vitamin C as long as it is 500 mg twice a day.

Packaging
This gets a thumbs up for the sealed plastic packaging.

Experience
I take one Ishigaki capsule with Rhea Ascorbic Acid every night. Just like what they say, an authentic Ishigaki-Advanced Ultra White will smell like rotten egg but it doesn't matter much really because taking the capsule only takes seconds. My only complaint is that its too big to swallow.

To start with, I have naturally fair skin. What I dislike about my skin is that it is dull. And I want to have a glowing and healthy looking complexion. I barely noticed the change after a month. I guess I have to take more.

How much and where to buy?
I got in on sale in Shopee for P950 for 60 capsules.

What I love
  • Price wise this is cheaper than my old glutathione capsule favorite.
  • It comes with plastic seal and other seal onside
  • Stinky rotten egg smell which means its authentic
  • Skin has a bit glow after taking Ishigaki
  • There was no changes in my skin tone
  • Batch, manufacturing and expiry date printed on the package. There's also the TDC initials embossed at the bottom of the bottle packaging and this is one proof that the product is authentic.
What I don't
  • Capsules are too big to swallow
  • I'm not sure if its BFAD approved
  • Available only online
  • I became more prone to breakouts after taking them I might be allergic to ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid).
Will I repurchase?
Contemplating if I should.

Overall~
So that's it for Ishigaki-Advanced Ultrawhite-L-Glutathione, its something that gave me a faint glow but also broke me out. I guess we are not meant to be, lol. I will still continue in taking glutathione in the future but for detoxification process only. I have started going to the derma recently and she advised me not to take gluta anymore.

Review: Silkygirl Magic BB Cushion SPF 50/PA+++

A matte BB cream is a rare find especially on cushions! That is why I often reach out for my foundations more when its hot and humid because I don't want to be a grease ball at the end of the day. But gone are the days of dissatisfaction with BB creams when I started using Silkygirl Magic BB Cushion SPF 50/PA+++.

Silkygirl Magic BB Cushion SPF 50/PA+++

What is it?
This BB Cushion is enriched with beneficial key ingredients like Skin Light Complex, Eldelweiss Extract and it is rich in mineral water to keep skin looking fresh and youthful to make you stand out. Dap on this BB Cushion and tap-tap on skin for medium to high coverage. Available in 2 shades; 01 Natural Light, and 02 Natural Medium.

• 12-hour Oil-Control
• Fragrance-free
• SPF50/PA+++
• Formulated for Asian Skin

Packaging
Their white plastic compact reminds me of the old Clean and clear powder I have before, it's pretty basic but clean looking. On top it has the Silkygirl logo which faded after a while.

Experience
Beauty is only skin deep! What matters is the inside, which also goes with this Silkygirl Magic BB Cushion SPF 50/PA+++. The cushion is made out of soft foam which has the 15g of product. It doesn't leak nor dry out and so far I have been using mine for a month now.

The 2 shades lean more on yellow undertone which is great because often than not most of the korean BB creams are greyish or has a pink undertone. The 2 shades is still insufficient because if you are pretty fair like me you might find this a bit dark. For normal skinned gals you may use it as is. It is a true matte and won't make you oil up. For finishing touches I like to top it off with a bit of powder for a more flawless finish.

Sometimes though if the skin is too dry (which is what my skin usually is when I use my acne cream) it can make the pores look bigger so make sue to moisturize. I also find that the coverage on red marks is pretty good but it doesn't last long. It fades on me and at the end of the day it seems I didn't put anything on my face at all. What I like to do to solve this is to layer it on sunblock. Using sunblock underneath it actually helps it stay longer as it adheres better to the skin. I use Celeteque sunblock cream. You may also opt to use a liquid foundation or BB cream if you're not a fan of sunblock.

How much and where to buy?
P675 available in Lazada, BeautyMNL and Silkygirl kiosks nationwide.

What I love
  • SPF 50 PA+++
  • Brightens and hydrates
  • Oil Control
  • Long wearing
  • Fragrance-free
  • Formulated for Asian skin
What I don't
  • None so far

Will I repurchase?
YES! Hopefully there can be a lighter shade in the future.

Overall~
Silkygirl Magic BB Cushion SPF 50/PA+++ is an awesome find and it does stand out among the BB cushions available today as the matte effect is perfect for the Philippine weather and the shades are perfect for Filipinas. Price wise this is also budget friendly, it doesn't break the bank and it doesn't dry easily.

And that's today's review. What's your favorite BB cushion right now?

Review: Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay

It was not long ago when Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay trended in the Philippines. I am guessing that they had better popularity after the this particular indian clay brand was featured in Jessica Soho.

What is it?
  • AZTEC SECRET INDIAN HEALING CLAY is bentonite clay from Death Valley, California, where it is sun- dried for up to six months in temperatures that sometimes reach 134 degrees.
  • Deep pore cleaning with 100% natural calcium bentonite clay
  • Does not contain: Additives, fragrances, animal products
  • Important Note: Do not leave clay mask on skin longer than 5-10 mins for delicate skin; this will prevent redness/drying Important
  • Note 2: Please read and follow all manufacturer directions before using. Slight redness of the skin is normal and will disappear in about 30 minutes after use.
  • Use for acne and blemishes. Use it once per week. Credits to link.

Packaging

Aztec Indian Clay has a plastic tub which comes in 2 sizes. I don't feel like digging in with the tub, what you see is what you get here. The other size is twice as bigger than this one. The most often partner of Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay is the Apple Cider Vinegar. The ratio is 1:1 usually and its 3 tablespoon of clay mask powder against 3 tablespoon of vinegar but the vinegar can be replaced with water if you have highly sensitive skin.

Experience
Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay with the help of ACV or Apple Cider Vinegar can be effective on acne as well as spots it left. A bit of advised in case you've missed it above, please check your sensitivity with the vinegar first, do a patch test on a small area of your skin first. Then if you are using a peeling product, may it be a toner or cream refrain from using this product until you have 3-5 days rest with the peeling product as there might be adverse reactions with the vinegar.

I also want to commend those who've been using the apple cider in their daily routine because it smells terrible! I believe in mind over but believe me the scent is pungent.

Here is the Aztec Healing clay in action with the Apple Cider Vinegar

A bit of kitty time, I think he doesn't like the vinegar scent too as he keeps on pulling away!

Drying up it cracks and my face felt like it was stretched/ pulled or is this what they mean by pulsate on the label? I let this on for 10 minutes and I've washed it off with water. While washing my face it felt very smooth, clean and refreshed. But when I looked in the mirror I've seen that my pores tightened however my face turned red! I was scared at first and I quickly put on Aloe vera gel to ease the redness. It didn't go away though.

This is where reading of labels come in handy, at the bottom of the back of the tub it says: “Slight redness of the skin is normal and will disappear in about 30 minutes.” There you go, highlighted and underlined for us to remember always. The acne I have seemed to have calmed a bit after usage of the face mask however I got a new one the next day which is pretty ironic. I am pretty sensitive to organic products so maybe it was a slight purging because it didn't happen the next time I've used it.

How much and where to buy?
P800 per tub which you can buy in trial sizes online or in Healthy Options. For the apple cider vinegar I recommend Braggs which is available in Puregold and leading supermarkets nationwide.

What I love

  • Cheap as there is a lot of product in 1 tub, it can last forever.
  • Face feels refreshed after washing off the product
  • Pores were tightened
  • Soft and smooth skin
  • Calmed my acne

What I don't

  • Pungent smell of the vinegar
  • Redness of the face after washing off
  • Purging

Will I repurchase?
I still have a lot right now, maybe not yet.

Overall~
This s worth a try, Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay does work in getting smoother and softer skin. I am not really convinced with the acne part though. I will have to use this for 2-3 months at most perhaps. I also can't get over with vinegar smell, I will try water next time. Ja!~

Doxycline Hyclate For Acne Treatment - My Derma Experience

I started having acne when I was in high school, gone are the days of good skin days but it became worst when I started working. It seems nothing is working anymore especially when I started my graveyard shifts and active hormones on some time of the month. If you have an Intellicare card chances are you can use this to get a no expense visit to a dermatologist. (What me?!) I have always thought that dermatologist consultations are expensive but here I am getting it for free with a health card. Basically this is paid by the company and whatever prescribed will not be free anymore. So I finally decided to go and get a checkup.

Doxycline Hyclate For Acne Treatment

I must say I get severe acne on my face occasionally but it doesn't stop there because I also get it on my back, chest and arms. I was really confused why I get it, it just won't stop. I can use topical treatments but since the acne is all over my dermatologist has prescribed an antibiotic and here comes Doxycline hyclate. This drug is a generic name for an antibiotic which is commonly prescribed to people with inflamed acne. Since the acne is everywhere then it might be good to treat it internally. She also mentioned a more potent drug which I can try if this one doesn't work. That other one is said to limit a person from giving birth for 3 years as it can bring harm to the offspring. I was also told to stay away from the sun and to always use sunblock as I will be photosensitive.

So I got a prescription for 100mg Doxycline hyclate and an anti-acne soap. Price ranges from P48-80 per capsule. I won't dig in much around the acne soap as its too drying for my face, I've only use it for my body.

What is it?
Doxycline Hyclate is also used for other purpose, I've read its an anti-bacteria type of drugs but I am also aware of various side effects, but the scariest one I've read is: Teen Claims Acne Medication Doxycycline Left Her "Nearly Blind".

Doxycline Hyclate For Acne Treatment - My Experience
I almost immediately felt the effect of Doxycline Hyclate. My acne went from severe to drying state in just 1 week. It seemed like I'm a new person! I was even able to use kojic soap on my face which I can't use before as I keep on breaking out from it. I only used Celeteque matte sunblock which goes white and matte. I've stopped using tretinoin products so my skin started to brighten and whiten. When treating pimples with tretinoin I had to choose between clear skin and fair skin. With Doxycline I am hitting 2 birds with one stone. However one bad effect I noticed is that I lost my appetite to eat, I am pretty thin to start with so this is a sad side effect for me.

One time I suddenly felt like its really hard to breathe and it went on for a week or so. I thought I was dying or I have some sort of heart problem but it turned out that its actually heartburn/ acid reflux. When taking doxycline I am not allowed to lie down at least 1 hour after taking it with a full meal. I wasn't probably listening when the dermatologist told me that, my bad.

Like I said I work in graveyard shifts so I don't really mind the photos sensitivity part of this drug however things changed as this all happened in summer and we have a beach family get away. I just can't turn my back on a fun holiday. I slathered on a lot of sunblock and went on the beach. I stayed like 2-4 hours at most and here is what happened:

I have never turned this golden brown before. Yikes.

I was wearing shorts so my legs and face also darkended. Many of my colleagues at work noticed that I tanned. As you can see I have blue hair at the moment so it's bizaar because my color doesn't go with my skin tone. That is how it goes for me! So for the first time after a while I've used kojic soap on my face. If you've read my older entries kojic soap breaks me out but not this time. It seemed like I am a new person, no breakouts!

Things are going nicely until I stop using it.

I missed a week of going back to the dermatologist for around one week and a half and the silly me thought that there might be an over the counter drug in place for it. I am being very honest with you guys, I took another drug without a prescription and its Lactoferin. It's an anti acne over the counter drug but it did not worked on me.

I broke out like crazy. Cystic acne on my face, I am in a panic mode, I knew I needed to go back to the dermatologist.

I was prescribed to go on a full 2 months of Doxycline hyclate again and my clear is as smooth as ever again.

The drug may or may not work on you, but taking oral pills especially for acne can be big gamble. I must say go to a dermatologist who can really assess your skin condition. Even public hospitals have them or if you have a health card like me you may use it for this purpose.

So how long will I take Doxycline Hyclate?
Guess what? I stopped using it already. I actually missed another appointment with the dermatologist *I'm truly sorry*. Remember when I told you I can already use kojic soap on my face? Well after the time I stopped taking Doxycline I quickly broke out because of it.

Indeed its a very bad breakout, my skin has always been very sensitive but now my skin if healing itself, I'm not sure if I should go back to the dermatologist or not because I don't want to be dependent on the drug forever but hey, I might just go back one of these days, who knows?
